As my representative in the Texas Senate, I strongly encourage you to vote in favor of House Bill 1158 authored by State Rep. Drew Darby. This bill aims to bolster the energy industry in our state by promoting carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), which could potentially generate tens of thousands of employment opportunities and billions of dollars in economic output.

Texas currently leads the nation in energy production, and HB 1158 would help make sure it stays that way!

Carbon capture technology is an essential part of our energy future, and this bill would incentivize its advancement and grow Texas’ energy industry. From providing good-paying jobs to generating billions of dollars in tax revenue that supports our schools, police and firefighters, the Texas energy sector is the backbone of our state’s economy.

HB 1158 will designate carbon capture ventures as “advanced clean energy projects” making them eligible for TERP funding. By supporting carbon capture, utilization, and storage, you can advocate for Texas’ most vital economic industry and encourage further investment in oil and gas production, all while helping to reduce emissions. By expanding the eligibility for TERP grants to include CCUS projects, Texas will encourage innovative technologies to support our energy and manufacturing sectors that create jobs while benefitting the environment.

If Texas is to remain the energy capital of the world, we must build on this strong program — that has a long history — to encourage wider deployment of carbon capture technology.
